New Curriculum for Wales

The New Curriculum for Wales will become a statutory requirement from 2023 for Year 7 and Year 8 children. At Flint High School we have begun the process of building an engaging curriculum for our young people that supports them to learn to excel.

Our vision for the curriculum is to support learners to become:

Confident Learners who:

  • Enjoy learning
  • Make the most of every opportunity

Responsible Learners who:

  • Demonstrate empathy and kindness
  • Always try, they accept and learn from mistakes

Active Learners who:

  • Challenge themselves
  • Ask for help and always aim to reach their potential

Learners who contribute

  • By being honest, kind and caring
  • By being proud of their community and are proud to live in Wales

Our curriculum will support every learner to develop their cross-curricular skills of literacy, numeracy and digital. We also recognise that for our young people to learn to excel, that they need to develop strong integral skills.

These integral skills are:

  • Creativity and innovation
  • Personal effectiveness
  • Planning and organising
  • Critical thinking and problem solving

Within each Area of Learning Experience will be a range of Experiences, Skills and Knowledge to help students realise the four purposes of the Curriculum for Wales
